Primary school levels

Primary school in Victoria is the learning place for students aged from 5 to 12 to 13 years old. It starts with Prep (Foundation Year) and students must be 5 years of age on or before 30th April that year to be eligible. Grade 6 is the final year of primary school and students are usually 12 to 13 years of age.

Study plan

Academic success is important and International Students will have the best learning and teaching available.  However, it’s not the only aim. At Deer Park North P.S., importance of social growth is recognized and students are allocated to classes with others of similar age.

Primary school students are placed in the best grade that fits their:

  • age and
  • academic ability.

The choice of grade level will also allow for the difference between schooling systems overseas and in other states of Australia.

English language skills

Deer Park North Primary School supports international students with their English language learning while they undertake normal classes with local students. There is no requirement to be enrolled in an intensive English language course before they start school. If deemed appropriate, international students may be provided with the opportunity to attend a language school for part of the school week. This is arranged by the school after the student is enrolled.

Welfare and care

All primary aged students must live with a parent or legal guardian (in the case of adoption or if the parents are deceased) while they are attending a Victorian Government primary school.

Fees for International Students

The Victorian Government website has further details of fees and program options through an online application.
